When The Drums Fade, So Do The Stories

Inside The Lutsaga Project
Before the written word, before towering monuments, there was the drum, the voice, the rhythm—the sound that united us. A melody spans boundaries, generations, and even languages. It goes beyond conventional communication; it is pure, unadulterated passion.
What we preserve now in the form of sound becomes an heirloom for tomorrow—not merely a record of the past. But for one vibrant community on the Kenyan coast, that inheritance is under immediate threat. Music is not just an art form; it is a vital connection to our past and a bridge to our future.
For this coastal community, losing its musical heritage means losing a part of its cultural identity. Music is the intangible DNA of humanity—it is the historian, carrying our ancestors' stories; the healer, uniting us in communal grief and celebration; and the indelible marker of identity that defines who we are.
